Chess at the Disabled Center
Welcome to Our Chess for the Disabled page
SOM Chess Academy uses Chess as a platform to enhance abstractive thinking, creativity, and innovation, thus giving the children/learners opportunities and a base from which to pursue formal education. Using Biblical principles the curriculum integrates Chess concepts into lifestyle realities building talent, character, and self-reliance for holistic development. In March 2016 Robert Katende launched the Uganda Chess for the Disabled. It was during a visit of Grandmaster Thomas Luther (Chairman FIDE Chess for the Disabled Commission) and Beatrice Marinello (Chairperson FIDE SAC Commission) that Robert Katende was conducting a an Instructor’s seminar. Since then, the children have continued to be taught Chess together with their teachers and the program is growing steadily.
